Steni is one of the most famous winter resorts in Greece. One of the most picturesque villages of Evia, located on the outskirts of Dirfys, the highest mountain of Evia 30km from Chalkida. Steni has 1,280 residents and is composed of three villages. Upper and lower Steni, and the almost abandoned village of Pyrgos (Skounteri). The center of the village is a paved square from where narrow paths branche to the the outskirts of the village. In the central square there are picturesque fountains with flowing waters. Many large trees cast their shadows over the quaint cafes and traditional taverns. There are many parks scattered throughout the village, which are is devoted to recreation and relaxation. Steni stands out for its rare beauty and springs. One of the many sources is the “doctor’s well,” five hundred meters after the village near the stream that runs through the village. In front of the fountain you can buy local products from this village and Dirfys, from an outdoor market. Tea, oregano, cheese, honey, handmade pasta, etc.
Doctor’s Well: Located five hundred meters above the village in plane trees with creek gurgling streams. Here you can find a traditional bazaar by village women who sell traditional foods such as tea Dirfys, trahana noodles, honey, nuts, cheese and herbs.
On the other side of the road you will find three tavernas which will strengthen their presence by awakening your appetite senses.
Mountain Retreat: Located 8 km from Steni. Most trails end here and so does the winding tarmac road. There are informative signs .The retreat offers accommodation and food.
In the forest there are many narrow paths that will impress young and old alike. Easy walks out onto crystal springs that are scattered at the foot of Dirfys.
