You are invited to travel to Evia, the second largest Greek island, where you will be based in Chalkida (Chalkis) the 10th oldest continuously occupied city in Europe. Here you will have the opportunity to go back in time and experience an unspoilt part of Greece with its spectacular scenery, beautiful coastline, traditional villages and numerous beaches. There are medieval castles, museums and Byzantine churches to visit whilst enjoying the local cuisine and wines at your leisure.

DAY 1 - Arrival - Chalkis

Arriving in Athens. There is then a drive of just over one hour to the 4 star Hotel Lucy on the waterfront at Chalkida where you will stay.

DAY 2 - Chalkis walking

We commence with a short walk to the castle of Karaba crossing the sliding bridge over the famous Strait of Euripus with its unique tidal phenomenon. Here we can obtain our bearings of the city and learn in the castle’s museum some of Chalkida’s varied history through its several occupations. After a visit to the local market a coach will then take us a few kilometres outside the city for our 8km walk in the countryside. B, PL, D

DAY 3: Kato Kambia

We travel to Kato Kambia where there is a shrine and church below a waterfall. This is the start of a 11km circular walk that will take us along the ridge above “The Hollows” to Skouderi with its 3 churches and Venetian Tower. We return to Kato Steni passing tree lined valleys, walnut groves and former clay pits. B, PL, D

DAY 4: Aghali Gorge

A trip to walk 9km down the spectacular tree-lined Aghali Gorge which starts below Evia’s highest mountain Dhirfys (1,743m). A lunch will be had in the mountain village of Steni. B, L.

DAY 5: Steni

We return to Steni to start a 12km circular walk up through the woods by a stream to a ridge which leads back to Steni. There are spectacular views of the surrounding countryside including the mountain ranges of Dhirfys and Xerovouni. The day will be rounded off by a visit afterwards to a local award winning vineyard for a tasting session. B, PL.

DAY 6: Eretria

A change of scenery with a visit to the museum in the ancient city of Eretria. We will then drive to the mountain pass near Gherondas before trekking 11km down to Eretria through the olive groves and hamlets. A final dinner in a village near Chalkida. B, PL, D

DAY 7: Departure

After a good breakfast, it will unfortunately be time to travel back to the airport.. However if you wish why not extend your stay and have a guided tour to the Acropolis of Athens or just spend a few more days in Athens or on Evia.

Accommodation

During this tour you will stay in the 4* Lucy Hotel. All the accommodation has been selected by us and checked in person by our crew. They fulfil a minimum level of standards for cleanliness, staff behaviour, breakfast, comfort and more. Most probably you will meet the owners themselves, have a cup of coffee with them!
