Get to know the walks of central Evia..!!!

Steni village is the most popular place in Evia to go trekking all year round. All the walks in this tour will be based in Steni village.

Central Evia is home to the mountaintops of Dirfys & Xerovouni. Both dominate above the Aegean sea. We will have the opportunity to walk just below their peaks reaching altitudes up to 1150mt.

The walks are demanding with various options. We will enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains rising above us, apple orchards in the middle of nowhere, and lush alpine forests. Depending on the day we will visit the mountain refuge.

DAY 1 - Arrival - Steni to mountain Refuge 7,7km (+777 m / -794 m)

Starting of at Steni village we head towards the chestnut forest. Climbing our way up we gradually start walking amongst fir trees on our 7,7km (+777 m / -794 m) 4 Hrs. Our final destination is the climbing club of Chalkida refuge. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent view of mount Dirfis. We make our way back to Steni from an alternate route through wonderful rocky trails that turn into great forests. Suggested overnight stay in Steni.

DAY 2: Xerovouni 11,6 km (+777 m / -794 m)

Starting off at Steni Village we head on towards Xerovouni mountain for an 11,6 km (+777 m / -794 m) 4-5 Hrs trek. The trail is uphill and we cross a stream several times. There is no water supply so we have to carry our own. As we reach out of the trees we come into the view of Xerovouni mountain which rises dominating above us. You can either go all the way to the top (Hard route), or skip the top and head straight towards Kampia village. The scenery from the top is breathtaking but even the alternate route is eye-catching. Arriving at Kampia village we will have the option of tasting local fresh trout. Short walk back to the village. Suggested overnight in Steni.

DAY 3: Aghali Gorge 7km (+210m/-880m)

A trip to walk 7km (+210m/-880m) 4-5 Hrs down the spectacular tree-lined Aghali Gorge which starts below Evia’s highest mountain Dhirfys (1,743m).

On this tour we come across several springs with fresh water. Snacks will have to be carried along as we leave our accommodation. Suggested overnight in Steni.

DAY 4: Kato Kambia 11km (+410m/-362m) - Departure

We travel to Kato Kambia where there is a shrine and church below a waterfall. This is the start of an 11km (+410m/-362m) 4 Hrs nearly circular walk that will take us along the ridge above “The Hollows” to Skouderi with its 3 churches and Venetian Tower. We return to Kato Steni passing tree lined valleys, walnut groves and former clay pits.

End of tour. It will unfortunately be time to travel back to the airport.. However if you wish why not extend your stay and have a guided tour to the Acropolis of Athens or just spend a few more days in Athens or on Evia.
